We have had thousands of guests on The Racing Round Up Show dating back to 1985. We have been honored to interview grassroots racers, to Alan Kulwicki, to Mario Andretti.

We are proud to be a destination for grassroots motorsports racers and will continue to give them their time to shine!

If YOU have a special memory or photo from past shows, share it with us in an email, to: racingroundup@gmail.com

Famous and not-so-famous racers have been guests on our show. We’ve had the fortune of having several NASCAR and IndyCar Series drivers at our program, including multiple visits with Jimmie Johnson, who lived in Milwaukee in his formative ASA National Tour days, while learning from the ultra-talented Howie Lettow. We’ve enjoyed talking to Al Unser, Jr. as much as we have interviewing 5 year-old kart racers!

The Racing Round Up Show was created by Southeast Wisconsin Hall of Fame member Terry Jeffords, Darold Dobs and Dennis Czarnyszka in 1984. Terry had been involved for 20-plus years in broadcast sales, includingthe development of the 97 WLPX sponsorship of Alan Kulwicki, who became one of Terry’s closest friends.

Terry secured airtime on WAUK-AM, then the Milwaukee MRN affiliate, and in April of 1985, the show launched with Darold and Dennis – both radio novices but diehard race fanatics – as co-hosts.

For the 1987 season, Terry, ever-the-promoter, worked it out with Darold’s long-time bowling proprietor friend Dick Richards to hold The Racing Round Up Show at Richards’ Springdale Inn in Waukesha, in front of a live audience. Race cars were rolled right into the banquet hall, and the on-site team was bolstered by Terry’s wife Joyce, his daughter Kelly Jeffords and all-around engineer Don Hunjadi, who built a studio in one of the hall closets close to the stage.

After the show went live in front of an audience, along came veteran engineer Dave Schmalzer and cub reporter Jim Tretow, who quickly increased their involvement.

The show moved to Monreal’s El Matador Lounge, where Frank Monreal welcomed racers and race cars from 1989 through 2005. LTN Hour host Todd Behling, Ned Wicker and Jeff Wesell co-hosted for stints, as well.

A watershed moment for The Racing Round Up Show was on April 5, 1993. It was the first show of the season, and the first program since the tragic April 1 passing of 1992 NASCAR champion Alan Kulwicki. Led by Dobs, a tribute broadcast to honor Kulwicki played to a capacity crowd of Kulwicki’s friends, media outlets and mourners. There have been several dedication shows since, saluting the contributions and passing of Terry and Joyce Jeffords, Darold Dobs and Dennis Czarnyszka, among others.
